You are Invited to the Journey of Coffee!

One of the most established coffee brands in the world, Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi, is celebrating December 5th World Turkish Coffee Day with the exhibition “Real Coffee Pleasure”, which tells the journey of our coffee culture.

The “Real Coffee Pleasure” exhibition covers three main topics:

- In the Coffee and Coffeehouse section; how coffee, which was first grown in Ethiopia and Yemen and popularized by Sufi dervishes, turned into a multifaceted treat culture in the imperial capital Istanbul in the 1500s, how coffee was described as a “Turkish custom” by European travelers and merchants, and how coffee and coffeehouse culture made great contributions to the art, culture, politics and economy of all societies, especially between the 17th and 19th centuries, are discussed with summary information and visuals.

- In the Coffee Cultivation and Climate Change section; The characteristics of the coffee plant, the main coffee types, the difficulties of coffee cultivation and how global climate change has threatened coffee cultivation and the coffee supply chain in recent years are explained. The same section also covers the first coffee cultivation attempts in Turkey.

- The third section describes the institutional history of Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi, which has played an important role in keeping our coffee culture alive since 1871, and its current production and export activities.

In addition to these three main sections of the exhibition, in the sections specially designed for the Package Post Office, the out-of-town shipments made by Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi through the Package Post Office until the mid-1950s are described with order letters from grocers, dried fruit sellers and coffee sellers from the most remote corners of Anatolia.

In addition to the exhibition that can be visited until February 15th at the Paket Postanesi, there are also some historical coffee tools such as old coffee cups, cezve, ewers, roasting and grinding tools on display in the “pop-up” store where Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi coffee products will be sold. In the workshop area on the same floor, it is planned to organize coffee tastings and seminars on Turkish and world coffees from time to time.
