Various art events will be held throughout the world in 2025
A wide range of cultural and art events will be held in various cities around the world in 2025, from film festivals to art fairs, from concerts to exhibitions.
According to information compiled by AA, while large organizations have become an important part of cultural calendars in different parts of the world, very special venues of the art world will host many events in the new year.
Exhibitions
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid will host the "Proust and Art" exhibition, which focuses on the importance of art in the works of Marcel Proust. The exhibition, which will feature works by masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Monet, can be visited between March 4 and June 8.
The works of Francesco Guardi will be exhibited for the first time in Madrid with a selection from the Gulbenkian Museum collection. The exhibition, titled "Guardi and Venice", can be viewed between February 3 and May 11.
The Kunstmuseum Basel, Switzerland will host the "Invention of Modern Sculpture" exhibition featuring Italian-French artist Medardo Rosso. The exhibition, which will feature works by more than 50 artists, will meet art lovers on March 29-August 10.
The "Brasil! Brasil! The Birth of Modernism" exhibition will take place at the Royal Academy of Arts on January 28-April 21. The exhibition, which will feature more than 130 works, will feature Brazilian Modernism.
The "Astonishing Things" exhibition, which will showcase drawings by Victor Hugo, will be presented to art lovers in France on March 21-June 29.
The inspiration that German artist Anselm Kiefer drew from Van Gogh's works throughout his career will be discussed in the "Kiefer/Van Gogh" exhibition on June 28-October 26. The exhibition, which can be visited at Burlington Gardens, will feature the works of the two artists as well as new works by Kiefer that have not been exhibited before.
England's traditional Summer Exhibition, which has been held uninterruptedly for 55 years, will showcase the wide spectrum of contemporary art. Works by famous names and new talents from various fields, from painting to photography, sculpture to architectural works, will meet art lovers at Burlington House from June 17 to August 17.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will present a special exhibition for the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich, the pioneer of the German Romantic movement. The exhibition, titled "Caspar David Friedrich: The Spirit of Nature", will present 75 of the artist's works. The exhibition will be open to visitors from February 8 to May 11.
Theater and performances
The play "Oedipus" starring Rami Malek and Indira Varma will be staged at the Old Vic Theatre in London from January 21 to March 29.
"Elektra" starring Brie Larson will be on view at the Duke of York's Theatre from January 24-April 12.
"Much Ado About Nothing" starring Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell will be on view at the Drury Lane Theatre from February 10-April 5.
"Richard II" starring Jonathan Bailey as Richard II, a king who believes he is divinely appointed but is fundamentally unfit to rule, will be on view at the Bridge Theatre from February 10-May 10.
Yasemin Sakallıoğlu's one-woman performance "How to Choose the Right Husband" will be on view at the Peacock Theatre in London on January 12.
Contemporary art events
"19. The International Architecture Exhibition will be held in Venice from May 10-November 23.
Art Basel will host leading galleries from Asia and beyond on March 28-30. The fair offers an in-depth overview of the astonishing diversity of Asia-Pacific and global artistic perspectives through modern and contemporary works.
One of the world’s prestigious contemporary art fairs, “Frieze London” will welcome visitors from October 15-19.
One of Germany’s leading contemporary art fairs, “Art Düsseldorf” will be a major meeting point for galleries and artists from across Europe. Focusing on Germany’s contemporary art scene, the fair will be open from April 11-13.
“Frieze Los Angeles” will take place at Santa Monica Airport from February 20-23. The event will feature an art gathering of the world’s leading galleries, ambitious installations and collaborations with non-profit organizations.
“The Armory Show” in New York will be open from September 5-7. The fair will play a leading role in the city’s position as a major cultural capital through high-level presentations, thoughtful programming, curatorial leadership, meaningful institutional partnerships and engaging public art events.
“Art Dubai” will meet art lovers on April 18-20. The fair will also feature a comprehensive programme of new artist commissions, performances, talks, workshops and educational programmes.
Classical music
Artist Fazıl Say will perform in Spain on January 10-11 and 14, in Switzerland on January 13 and in Germany on January 24.
Leif Ove Andsnes, Nelson Goerner, Richard Goode, Benjamin Grosvenor, Yunchan Lim, Víkingur Olafsson and Andras Schiff will give recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall in January and July.
Directed by Simone Young and Alexander Soddy, "Die Walküre and Siegfried" will meet art lovers at Teatro alla Scala in Milan on February 5-23 and June 6-21.
In New York, the Metropolitan Opera's four new operas will be staged on May 12-June 7. John Adams' "Antony and Cleopatra" will also meet art lovers at the event.
"Janacek The Excursions of Mr Broucek" will be staged in London on May 4-6 and July 11-13
